Hello! 👋 My name is Elizabeth McIlwee, and I’m the founder of Archaracter Design - an interior design studio grounded in the belief that exceptional spaces are shaped by the intersection of architecture and character. With a background in engineering and a lifelong love for art, I bring a thoughtful balance of function and beauty to both residential and commercial interiors. Based in Ohio but working with clients across the country, I specialize in creating timeless, character-rich spaces that feel elevated, personal, and intentionally designed. Whether it’s a cozy home renovation or a full-scale commercial buildout, my mission is to make the design process feel approachable while delivering spaces that are deeply aligned with how you live, work, and feel.
I began my professional journey in engineering, drawn to the structure and logic it offered. But I've always felt an undeniable pull toward something more creative. That spark was first lit by my grandmother, a successful residential interior designer and entrepreneur whose work captivated me from an early age. I’ve grown to love the technical side of building, but I’ve belonged to the world of design.
What began as designing my own home quickly evolved into helping friends, family, and eventually clients bring their spaces to life. It didn’t take long before I realized this was more than a passion—it was a calling. Leaving the familiarity of engineering behind, I made the leap to build a business that felt aligned with my purpose and creative vision.
I turned to social media to share my perspective—documenting design inspiration and sharing my thoughts and opinions. That authenticity built real connections. It attracted a community of like-minded individuals and clients who valued thoughtful, approachable design rooted in intention.
Today, I lead with the same values I started with: clarity, creativity, and care. My aesthetic leans toward natural textures, sculptural elements, and timeless materials that age with grace.
For me, interior design is not just about what looks good—it’s about what feels right. It’s about creating a sense of ease, beauty, and belonging. Whether you’re renovating a single room or building something entirely new, I’m here to help translate your vision into a space that feels both effortless and extraordinary.
And the most exciting part? I’m just getting started.
